In an age-old war, that of Gyõz versus Garroul—vampire against werewolf—the Gyõz finally have the upper hand.
Having built a crude but effective prison, the Gyõz are systematically rounding up the Garroul, and forcing them to work for them.
When two men find themselves incarcerated in the vampire’s labour camp, all they want is to get out, but, along with the other maltreated inmates, even their thoughts of escape are prevented by a high-pitched and head-splitting broadcast that keeps those with monthly-canine ears well and truly in the dog’s house.
It is a plan of genius, designed by the greatest vampire minds. But even the best laid plans can be plotted against.

This one has been a long time in the making; based on the grandfather I never met and the real movements of the 1st/4th Leicestershire Regiment who were the first full Territorial regiment in France in 195. They were involved in one of the first German liquid fire attacks at Hooge (30-31 July 1915), suffered heavily during the attack at the Hohenzollern Redoubt (13 October 1915) and then in reserve during the diversionary attack at Gommecourt on the first day of the Somme offensive (1 July 1916). Luckily for them, they were in reserve on that day; not so for the poor Staffords or Sherwood Foresters who took the full brunt of the poorly planned attack and meant they only served as cannon fodder so the main Somme attack could take place further south in the line. With no real objective, they died bravely but needlessly.

They were involved in several operations and battles in 1917 but went on to be part of the first Division (46th (North Midland)) to cross the Hindenburg Line after their success at the battle of the St Quentin canal.

Fed up with being bullied, Ben Hickley doesn’t fit in with the local lads; he is gentle, spends time with his younger sister, and is great friends with his elderly neighbour and her brute of a dog; an animal he shares a close bond with.

From his home in Aylestone Park, Leicester, he sets off to the headquarters of The Leicestershire Regiment known locally as ‘The Tigers’. His aim is to join the Territorials, get fit and strong, stand up for himself and give Bacchus what for.

But when Britain declares war on Germany in 1914, Ben finds himself in France and, unexpectedly, with the dog in tow. Here, the horrors of war are only too real, and when he is forced to kill during the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt he is racked by guilt. His attempts at seeking forgiveness are ridiculed by the men and as new recruits arrive from home he feels out of his depth, slipping deeper into despair, the dog’s loyalty the only thing keeping him in check.

As July nears, with the world at war, 46th Division prepares itself for a diversionary attack at the north of the line on the first day of the Somme offensive, news comes from home, throwing him into disarray. And so Ben’s sanity is tested, causing a turn of events from which he may never return.

Unnatural Selection

When an ancient feud between the Mitclani and the Urbat—ancient vampires and age-old werewolves—finally spills out onto the streets of the world, many are caught in the crossfire; the victims either turned, brutally murdered or taken as food. Those left find themselves scavenging by day and fighting off Mitclani raiders at night. Alone and desperate, five occupants barricade themselves in a house in one of London’s elite neighbourhoods. They all have separate agendas but one common goal. Staying alive during the day is relatively easy, if you’ve got the right weapons, but keeping death from the door at night is another thing altogether. And, as if keeping blood-hungry vampires out wasn’t enough, to top it off the full moon is only days away, meaning the square could soon be rife with menacing wolves. It is survival of the fittest, where any moment an attack from otherworldly beings with large teeth and sharp claws is a possibility.

First review is 5 stars – Thanks Shoulanda, glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, I’ve finally done it.

After mooching about with around 30 horror short stories for a while now, I have now dwindled them down to 24 and released them as a flash fiction anthology. It should be available in 12 to 48 hours on Kindle, entitled Scream and Scream Again – Twenty-Four Flashes of Horror.

Some are brutal and not for the fainthearted (Over 18s only) and feature demons, vampires, werewolves, zombies, demons and nutters – all things scary basically. I hope you enjoy them.
